Hi, I'm Rowan McPhee!
A Titled Sports Physiotherapist, Rowan completed his undergraduate physiotherapy training through Curtin University in 2007. After gaining a few years of private practice and sports physiotherapy experience in Perth, his love for travel took him to London, where he lived for four years, working with a mixture of high flying CEOs, diplomats, journalists, actors and dancers. Upon returning to his home town of Perth, Rowan’s curiosity for learning led him to undertake the Masters of Clinical Physiotherapy (Sports and Exercise Major) at Curtin University where he was awarded the Dr Diana Hopper prize for the Sports Masters student.
Rowan has worked in a diverse range of clinical settings – from home visits and aged care, to hydrotherapy and gym rehabilitation. He has worked in both amateur and high level sport, including his current role as head physio for the WA U16s State AFL Team and previous roles with Fremantle Women’s AFLW, AFL Masters WA and with the Perth Lynx in the WNBL. He was also lucky enough to work with elite basketballers during the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in 2018.
During his time in London, Rowan also had the opportunity to provide treadmill running assessments and rehabilitation/return-to-run programs for those looking to get back to running pain free. He gets great satisfaction in providing runners of all abilities with tools to achieve their personal goals.
“I love getting to meet people from all walks of life and enjoy the challenge that diagnosis brings. I love being creative with rehab ideas and find helping people achieve their goals extremely rewarding.”
Beyond his passion for treating runners, Rowan has experience in rehabilitating post-operative shoulder injuries and has a keen interest in ACL rehabilitation and chronic low back pain, which he finds hugely challenging and rewarding at the same time. He prides himself on his ‘hands on’ approach and has additional training in dry needling and spinal manipulation.
Rowan loves the outdoors and loves staying active along Perth’s beautiful coastline with a mixture of swimming, cycling and running. Rowan grew up playing a diverse range of sports and loves to learn about all aspects of human movement. His personal milestones include completing the Copenhagen Marathon, Busselton Half Ironman and playing representative football and cricket.
Rowan’s warm and empathetic nature, combined with his hands on, practical approach ensures the best outcomes for his patients. He is continually seeking to learn and prides himself on high value care and clear communication.
Away from work, Rowan loves to get outside where he can and enjoy a mixture of swimming, cycling or running along Perth’s beautiful coastline. He also keeps his strength up with regular gym and enjoys the occasional call up for social cricket, football or basketball!
