Sam is back in Western Australia after spending most of the past decade in Sydney, where he ran his own physiotherapy clinic at one of Australia’s largest gymnastics clubs. The lure of the Indian Ocean has brought Sam back and he is excited to have the opportunity to be part of the Life Ready family!
On top of running his clinic in Sydney, Sam worked as a physiotherapist with Randwick City Swim Club and consulted at Kensington Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic at the University of New South Wales. He also spent four years as Head Physiotherapist for the Eastern Suburbs Bulldogs in the Sydney AFL.
Sam has pursued post-graduate training in the area of sports physiotherapy and has completed the APA sport level 3 course at the Australian Institute of Sport, a graduate certificate in Sports Physiotherapy through La Trobe University and is in the final stages of completing his Masters of Sports Physiotherapy.
He has a keen interest in treating adolescent athletes, in particular gymnasts and swimmers. He also has particular interest in post-operative rehabilitation, lower limb overuse injuries (stress fractures, Achilles and patella tendon pain) and hip injuries and is highly experienced in working with patients following ACL surgery.
“I don’t think there is any other health care profession that requires a cooperative relationship between the patient and the clinician as physiotherapy. To get the best results for our clients we need to educate and teach in order for them to understand their issue and be empowered to take control of their rehabilitation. I really love it when there is that light bulb moment of understanding between my patient and myself and we know we are both on the same page. Once this happens, I know my patient will have a great outcome.”
Sam’s usual weekend involves a craft beer or two, punching out some laps in the pool, plenty of coffee, swimming at south beach or watching the Fremantle Dockers (depending on the time of year) and cooking up Sunday night feasts for his family and friends.
