Improve your osteoarthritis symptoms

We understand the challenges and impact of osteoarthritis (OA) on daily life, which is why we run the GLA:D® Program – a not-for-profit, evidence-based initiative led by La Trobe to help effectively manage hip or knee OA symptoms and regain confidence and control.

Fully guided by our qualified physiotherapists, the program is delivered through high quality education, exercise sessions and effective self-management strategies to manage pain and help you or someone close to you regain confidence and control.

What does the GLA:D® Program involve?

  • An initial appointment with one of our experienced GLA:D® physiotherapists to explain the program and measure your current functional ability
  • Two education sessions that teach you about OA, its risk factors, treatment options and take-home self-management strategies
  • Group exercise sessions twice a week for six weeks focusing on enhancing joint control, boosting confidence, and building strength
  • A review at three months to discuss your progress and goals and re-measure your movement ability
  • Completion of a questionnaire on registration with the program, and then again at three and 12 months after registration to measure changes in areas such as pain, function, quality of life, and medication use

How can the GLA:D® Program help?

You’ll discover the potential for reduced hip and knee pain, which can open doors to a more active lifestyle, and as you regain your confidence, you may also notice a positive impact on your health and fitness habits and wellbeing.

Through valuable advice and exercises that you can seamlessly integrate into your everyday activities, you’ll be equipped with the essential skills to self-manage your osteoarthritis and reduce the need for surgery.

What do I need to participate in the GLA:D® Program?

We welcome anyone over the age of 18 experiencing any level of hip and/or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Whether your pain is mild or severe, if a hip or knee condition has prompted you to seek medical care, you meet the criteria to join the program.
