Why a massage isn’t “just a treat”

Remedial massage is more than just a relaxing time on the table and it’s certainly not “just a treat”. It’s a targeted and purposeful treatment delivered by certified and trained massage therapists designed to help your body move, feel and function better.

Sure, a massage feels amazing and may feel like a luxury, but the real benefits go far deeper than relaxation. And one of the best parts is that remedial massage can support pretty much everyone. Athletes, office workers, tradies, parents – it supports all bodies and lifestyles. As long as there’s no acute injury, it can be an effective way to ease tension and pain.

Let’s break down why remedial massage is beneficial to helping you reach your best quality of life.

Get on top of those annoying aches and pains

A sore neck from scrolling? Tight back from lifting? Aching legs from exercise? Remedial massage works on muscles, tendons and your connective tissues to help reduce pain, especially when it’s linked to tension, over‑use or a past injury.

Living with pain is no fun, which is why a remedial massage can help you stay active and on top of your day.

Move more easily (and without groaning)

Remedial massage helps improve flexibility and mobility by releasing those tight spots that limit your movement, so getting up, reaching, twisting or bending becomes easier at places like the gym, at sports or just in general life.

Our massage therapists use several hands‑on techniques like myofascial release, trigger‑point therapy or deep tissue methods to loosen tight areas, release “knots” and improve how your body moves. Our goal is to help you leave our treatment rooms feeling lighter, freer (and often a little happier!)

In other words, more movement = less struggles.

Reduce stress and boost your mood

We get it too – life is busy. Work, family, social stuff, the general chaos. It’s all a big toll!

A remedial massage encourages your nervous system to chill out. It stimulates blood flow and circulation, lowering the stress hormones and increasing the feel‑good chemicals in the body, to help improve stress, anxiety, sleep and wellbeing.

Recover faster from injuries

If you’ve strained something or had an injury linger longer than you’d hoped for, a remedial massage can support your healing.

By improving blood flow and releasing tension around the injured area, remedial massage helps your body repair itself more efficiently. It’s also great alongside physiotherapy and other exercise rehab treatments that help get you back to feeling your best, quicker.

By loosening those tight muscles and helping to improve movement, remedial massage can allow your body to move more safely, lowering the risk of re-injury.

You don’t need to be injured or in pain to benefit from a remedial massage – it is simply good maintenance! Whatever brings you in for a remedial massage, you’re in charge of your comfort so let your massage therapist know if the pressure isn’t quite right.

FAQs

1. I’m pregnant and experiencing a bit of muscle discomfort. Can a massage help?
Yes. Our massage therapists are experienced in pregnancy-safe techniques and will tailor the massage to suit your needs and ensure your safety.

The second trimester is often the most comfortable time for pregnancy massage, though in the third trimester, it is still beneficial for helping to relieve lower back pain, leg cramps and swelling. We recommend checking with your GP or antenatal care provider first about pregnancy massage, especially if you have any high-risk pregnancy conditions.

2. Is massage therapy available at all Life Ready Physio + Pilates locations?

Not at all of our clinics just yet, but we’re working on it! The easiest way to check is to call your preferred location and they can confirm if a remedial massage therapist is available and, if not, help connect you with the nearest clinic that can assist.

3. How much is a remedial massage?

Each of our Life Ready Physio + Pilates clinics is a little different, and so are our people. We’re proud to have remedial massage therapists with a wide range of experience and additional training which means pricing may vary slightly between our locations. Additionally, remedial massages are available in a range of durations like 30min, 45min or 60min.

For up-to-date pricing, please contact your preferred Life Ready Physio + Pilates directly.

4. What happens during a remedial massage?
Once you’ve booked a consult, our remedial massage therapists will:

  • Chat about your pain, your goals and your lifestyle
  • Identify which areas need attention
  • Tailor the massage to what you need (which might be firm pressure, gentle release or something in between)
  • Discuss any future or ongoing remedial massages to help you reach your goals

5. Can I use my private health insurance to claim a rebate back?
Many private health insurance providers cover remedial massage under “extras” cover. It depends on your specific policy, the level of cover or any waiting periods, so it’s best to check in with your health fund prior to your appointment.
